MY Nutritional Symptomatology

So yesterday evening I decided to go back and re-test my Nutritional Symptomatology. I had preformed the Advanced NUTRI-BODY Analysis about 4 months after diving into my Nutritional Consultant certification and through a re-test was in order.

An ADVANCED NUTRI_BODY ANALYSIS is a method of nutritional appraisal designed especially for professional Nutritional Consultants. It enables me to pin-point each person;s unique biochemical weaknesses, The scores in each category of the questionnaire are compared only to the person's overall state of health and not to any textbook standards or statistical averages. From my studies I have been able to interpret and make sound recommendations based on each participates unique responses to the Advanced Nutri-Body Analysis.

So before I reveal my results let me first briefly explain what biochemical individuality . The term denotes how we all differ nutritionally. We do need the same food factors such as protein, fats, vitamin, minerals etc, but we do not all need them in the same proportions of from the same sources. Our body's own ability to digest, absorb and assimilate nutrients varies widely from person to person. We have internal organs that differ in efficiency and in their needs for specific nutritional support. Because of allergy or intolerance, many of us react adversely yo foods which other thrive on. Some of us have stressful lifestyles that place high nutritional demands on our bodies.

Laboratory test are expensive, time consuming and of limited usefulness. They are more reliable for finding the final stages of advanced disease than they are at uncovering early or sub-clinical imbalances, the very kind which are most common. Laboratory tests provide a "snapshot" of what a person's biochemistry looked like on a particular day. They are however not indicative of long term trends. I focus on clinical tests - which focuses on tests and observations of physical signs and symptoms. This is a motivational approach that allow my participation to become full participants in their own health care. My main source at the moment is the Nutritional Symptomatology.

I can survey and analyze a person's unique array of symptoms to discover possible nutritional causes for them. I can interpret deficiencies and imbalances long before they show up on laboratory tests.

So I answered my 700 questions - which ask about bodily and emotional complaints and it's consistency. Does the specific symptom or emotional complaints happen sometimes/mild, often/moderate or very often/severe?

MY RESULTS: I added up my results and found the TOP 4 components I should focus on, which were increasing my (1) MACRONOUTRIENTS of Essential Fatty Acids, (2)Improving my Digestive Imbalances specifically my Lactic Bacteria, (3)MACRO MINERALS of Silicon and (4) Metabolic/Systemic Imbalances - which for me is Hypoglycemia (also known as low blood sugar) I have to revisit my supplementation for Hypoglycemia such as Vitamin C, the B-complex vitamins as well as zinc and chromium. Theses results have IMPROVED GREATLY since educating myself in nutrition. For example I was looking at my Hypoglycemia score from my first test back in August and found I scored 78. Now I scored 33.

I also noted my MIDDLE ground imbalances and was surprised to see that another digestive imbalance of the liver/gall bladder, which indicated that I am not getting enough duodenum when it is needed. Bile is what is needed to break down large fat globs into tiny droplets, so that the fat-splitting enzymes from the pancreas can work on them. YIKES!!! Without enough bile, fats and minerals combine in the gut to form insoluble soaps which often cause constipation and mineral deficiencies. And listen to this GALLSTONES can also create the symptoms in this section. Many people have gallstones without knowing it. Such stones are solidified cholesterol that plug the gall bladder and prevent bile from flowing as needed. So I determined a "gall bladder flush" is in order.

My goals is to combat my big 4 along with addressing my liver/gall bladder first. My weighed scoring is a very reliable methods of approximate measurement as it focuses the attention on the most significant imbalances. If theses are corrected, then all of the others will tend to correct themselves.

The Advanced Nutri-Body Analysis not only will allow me to interpret the results, but will also look at detoxifying, Dietary Guideline and Supplements recommendations depending on an individuals unique biochemistry.

Only 20 Full Days Left

That is less than 3 weeks. In 3 weeks I will take my final final Transformation pictures. My progress is getting better, my consistency is there and more importantly I am feeling great! I have a new strength training program, my cardio is moderate and steady but intense after my lifting day. I started adding an additional 150-200 calories a day per my diet and my metabolism is in over drive. I am feeling hungry within 2 hours of my last meal - so I have been fueling my body more frequently.
I thought with the end of my challenge just around the corner I would post some pictures. A few shots I took the yesterday to show my trainer, just so she could get a feel to how my body has been reacting to the extra calories. She seemed pleased enough so with a couple of tweaks to my strength training program I am off to work hard for another week.

Working on my Business Plan

All true healing occurs as a result of the body’s own healing forces within. This is the primary philosophical premise surrounding Nutritional Therapy.

If your body is not fed the full range of nutrients it needs, you can not expect it to stay healthy, maintain proper function or provide yourself with vitality. Yet that's what many of us are doing when we eat an abundance of fast foods, processed foods, the wrong carbohydrates, unhealthy fats and neglect eating the vegetables, fruits, good fats and proteins that our bodies require. Nutritional counseling is an essential component for you to maintain optimal health.

As I am working on my business plan and my business website to in-cooperate everything that I have learned and am learning, feel free to contact me regarding my services at:

THE TRANSFORMATION CONTINUES!

Today makes 8 weeks of since I signed up for the 12 week Transformation Challenge. It has been a good run and I am feeling good about my progress and I am not holding back on my workouts or my nutrition. Full speed ahead. SO GET OUT OF MY WAY!! I upped my calories since I started, hired an online nutritionist and personal trainer who has helped me develop a few workouts and it's working out well. My focus on macro nutrients has been adjusted a bit in the last 5 weeks and I feel like I have a good solid handle on my eating. Still enjoying the occasional cheat meal, once a week and trying to keep my fingers out of the sunflower seed butter jar. Yes - my addiction is no longer peanut butter but sunflower seeds :) But the texture is different, so refraining from it has been easy where as regular peanut butter I could scoop, and scoop rather frequently I would. Took that out of my diets, months ago and now I will not even look at it :)

So I was anxious to jump on the scale and see what my results are - grabbed that tape measure and my Omron and went to work! I was not surprised, I've done well I was PROUD. For one of the first times in a while I was genuinely PROUD. I wasn't thinking oh that good, but I would have done better here. NO, I was proud and happy with the results. I have given it my all and if that is my best than I am happy with that.

Here are my measurements and stats when I submitted my form, enrollment fee and my pictures:
FRIDAY JANUARY 2ND

WEIGHT: 109LBS
BODY FAT: 15.3%
NAVEL: 27.5
WAIST: 25.75
HIPS 35
RIGHT THIGH 19.25
LEFT THIGH 19

And here are my results now --- drum roll please ;)

Weight 102.2lbs
Body Fat 13.1% (Omron)
Waist 23.75
Navel 25
Hips 33.5
Right Thigh 18.75
Left Thigh 18.75

In 8 weeks I have lost 6.8LBS, 2.2% of body fat reduced and 7.75 inches (MEASUREMENTS FROM 5 AREAS) But I can not stop there! I still have 4 weeks to make some improvements and of course they are not going to be HUGE numbers in 4 weeks but they will be better than this week. Moving forward, being consistent, being healthy - that is what this challenge is for me. Oh yes -- and finishing what I started.

KIWI - THE POWER FOOD

The kiwi that originated in China, not New Zealand, during the 14th century was referred to then as the "gooseberry".

This vine-grown, fuzzy fruit is green or gold on the inside but no matter the color they are all creamy in texture and loaded with nutritional value.

Kiwi's contain more vitamin C than oranges and the antioxidants in them aid with immunity, wound-healing, iron absorption and cell production just to name a few.

In addition to the C, they also contain lutein, a carotenoid best known for helping fortify they eyes against macular degeneration. Vitamin E is also present which is a antioxidant that helps combat free radicals and with preventing heart disease.

These amazing fruits help to lower triglycerides and have dietary fiber and potassium that aids to maintain the nervous system.

When buying kiwi, look for a firm fruit and store in the refrigerator's crisper drawer up to 4 or 5 days.

The following is the nutritional breakdown of a kiwi:
Fiber- 21% of DRI
Potassium-12% of DRI
Vitamin C- 219% of DRI
Vitamin E- 17% of DRI

GREAT SUGGESTIONS ......

Found this in the Natural Solutions magazine November 2008. These were all suggested by Holistic Doctors:

1.Never Skip a Meal. When you don't have enough fuel to burn your body uses adrenalin. Good for quick bursts of energy but takes a toll on your body increasing blood pressure and heart rate from the stress hormones released.

2. Make Lunch your biggest meal. Your bodies digestion slows down before sleep and your peak digestion time is between 10am and 2pm. Eating during that time a big nourishing meal will give you plenty of energy and keep you from eating too much at dinner.

3. Quit Grazing. If you continue to eat often throughout the day your body cannot fast and burn fat where the detoxification process takes place.

4. Breathe like a baby. breathe through your nose with a full deep breath. This triggers the parasympathetic nervous system causing you to feel calm. You will take more oxygen in more efficiently , in turn this allows your metabolism to be more efficient.

5. Pump iron to sharpen your mind. When we develop our muscles we also change the neuronal patterns in our brains. Do muscle training 2- 40 min sessions weekly and make sure you lift heavy enough weights for your muscle to fatigue.

6. Get your Rest. When you sleep you metabolize excess stress hormones like adrenalin and cortisol in the body. These hormones lead to cellular inflammation which is known to be the root cause to all chronic degenerative diseases.

7. Eat Warm Foods. According to Chinese medicine too many cold foods chill your body, slowing your circulation and weakening your digestive fire leaving stagnation in your body.

8. Express gratitude. Sharing emotion like joy and gratitude bring you good health. In Chinese medicine every organ is associated with an emotion. Take responsibility for your own emotional state and keep a healthy attitude.

9. THE 70% RULE. Don't do anything beyond 70% of your capacity. Such as eat until your are 70% full. This way your digestion wont slow down. Everything in moderation.

10. Slow Down. Don't cram and become energy depleted, this leads to illness.

11. Get an annual physical. You could be overlooking something and it helps to have someone to feel comfortable with to talk about your concerns and complaints and receive proper dietary advice, tests etc.

12. Find your passion. express yourself and do something you love to do everyday. WE need to stay connected to things we love to feel the sense of joy and happiness.

13. Get Out the measuring tape. The circumference of your waist is more important than weight. A large waist can increase your risk of insulin resistance which raises your risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Women should have no more than a 35 inch waist and men should measure 40 inches or less. Cut down on food intake, exercise more.

14. Stop late-night nourishing. Eating late disrupts your bodies natural sleep cycle. eating late leaves you more likely wake up less hungry and your more likely to skip breakfast, this turns into a nasty cycle of bad eating. If you must eat something eat a piece of fruit or have some herbal tea.

15. Get a dose of D. Americans lack sufficient vitamin D which leads to cancer and other disease. the body needs lots of sun or supplemental vitamin D

I personally agree with these suggestions for living a healthy lifestyle. I would like to add that eating fresh organic fruits/juice for breakfast. Do not combine fruit with anything else for at least one half hour before or after you consume fruit. Fruit is quickly digested alone but when it is combined with other foods such nuts or starches or protein, the body will break that food down first and the fruit will ferment and not digest properly causing gas and bloating.

Not only do fresh fruit and vegetables contain generous amounts of vitamins which help regulate metabolism and help in the conversion of fats and carbohydrates into energy but they are also known for protecting the body from major diseases such as cancer and heart disease. Juices that are made from fruits with rich colors such as grapes, pomegranates, cranberries, and blueberries are rich in vitamins and antioxidants. The best types to drink are fresh juiced vegetables because they do not raise insulin level. Best to make fresh fruit and vegetables juices yourself because there are no hidden preservatives or sugar which are items that should be examined when reading labels. 100% fruit juices are fat-free, nutrient-dense beverages that are rich in vitamins, minerals and naturally occurring phytonutrients that contribute to good health. I am a firm believer in eating as much raw organic fruits and veggies as possible on a regular basis.

When heating foods remember that you are killing the enzymes that our bodies need for optimum health, so cook on as low as possible. Exercise is extremely important. Staying active keeps you physically and mentally healthy. Also try to meditate and relax regularly, especially if you live a high stress style.

WATER WATER WATER!! Extremely important to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water everyday! Aside from aiding in digestion and absorption of food, water regulates body temperature, blood circulation, carries nutrients and oxygen to cells and removes toxins and other wastes. If there isn't enough water, wastes are not removed effectively and may build up as kidney stones. Symptoms of dehydration can include heartburn, low back pain, headaches, mental irritation and depression. The best water to drink is natural mineral water. Pure water or filtered water is also a good alternative although they lack significant amounts of minerals.

Taking deeper breaths through your nose. This should be practiced on a regular basis. Getting Sufficient oxygen is extremely important for optimum health! Get enough sleep! Lack of sleep causes all types of illness both physically and mentally a emotionally. The body needs to sleep at least 7-8 hours per night. It is when you sleep when your cells rejuvenate.
